Barents Re sponsors International Actuarial Conference

Barents Re was recently invited to sponsor ASTIN’s international conference held in Panama City in August 2017. ASTIN (Actuarial STudies In Non-life insurance) was created in 1957 as the first Section of the International Actuarial Association. ASTIN’s main objective is to promote actuarial research, particularly in non-life insurance. ASTIN is continually working to further develop the mathematical foundation of non-life insurance and reinsurance.

ASTIN organizes international conferences which bring together both academics and practitioners, and provide an outstanding forum for the exchange of knowledge among actuaries of different countries and different disciplines in the application of research to practical problems. The 2017 conference featured new research from top researchers and practitioners in the field focusing on academic and practical explorations of the applications of actuarial and risk management theory, giving rise to the idea of “actuarial engineering,” the over-arching theme of this year’s conference.
